How to Set Up a FiveM Roleplay Discord Server (2026)

A FiveM roleplay city lives or dies by its Discord. It's where people apply for whitelist, join departments, get support and hear about restarts. This guide shows the layout that works for most RP servers, and how to build it quickly.

The channel layout most RP cities use

Keep it simple for newcomers and organized for staff. A proven structure:

• 📢 Info: #rules, #announcements, #server-status, #how-to-join
• 📝 Whitelist: #apply, #application-results
• 🌆 City: #general, #media, #suggestions, #city-news
• 🚓 Departments: one private category per department (LSPD, EMS, Mechanics), visible only to that role
• 🎫 Support: #open-a-ticket for bans, bugs, refunds and staff reports
• 🛡️ Staff: #staff-chat, #staff-logs, #loa (leave of absence)

💡 Put #how-to-join near the top. Most "how do I connect?" questions disappear when the server IP, rules and whitelist link are in one pinned message.

Roles and permissions

Create roles from most to least powerful, because Discord only lets a role manage roles below it:

1. Owner / Management, full admin.
2. Staff (Admin, Moderator, Support). Give them Manage Messages and Timeout Members, not Administrator.
3. Department roles (LSPD, EMS…) that unlock each department's private category.
4. Whitelisted, which unlocks the city channels.
5. Unverified / Applicant, which can only see Info and Whitelist.

For each department category, deny View Channel for @everyone and allow it for that department's role. Set the permissions on the category and let channels sync, so you only do it once.

Whitelist applications that don't flood your DMs

Screenshots of Google Forms get lost. A better flow: applicants press an Apply button, answer questions in a Discord form, and staff get the answers in a private review channel with Accept and Deny buttons. Accepting gives the Whitelisted role automatically and DMs the applicant.

Good whitelist questions: age, timezone, RP experience, a short character backstory, and "what would you do in this scenario?" questions that show whether they read the rules.

Support tickets and staff management

Public "help" channels get messy fast. Use a ticket panel: members click a button (Ban appeal, Bug, Refund, Report a player) and get a private channel with staff. Ask a couple of questions up front so staff don't have to, and save a transcript when it closes.
